This is our first level of History classes. In this class that uses Our Star-Spangled Story, children will learn about US History. The kids will hear stories and facts of the USA from pre-Columbus to modern day.
The kids read 2 chapters at home and the third chapter (which finishes our each unit) will be read in class and we then work through the comprehension questions from their workbook.
Children have a little bit of "at home" work beside the reading of chapters but these are often as simple as drawing a corresponding picture or coloring an image.
In additional to all of this, we also provide an additional reading list/lesson plan that we feel helps reinforce each lesson. These are typically wonderful "living books" that correspond to the era of history that the kids are currently learning.
Optional:At Home Geography
We also recommend kids learn to memorize the states and capitals through Kathy Troxel songs. This is in no way expected, we just realize it's very useful for the kids to learn and so we offer a suggested lesson plan for this.
