Story of the World 1 (Ancient History)

Story of the World 1 (Ancient History part 1)

Suggested Grades: 3rd-5th Grade

Prerequisites: None

We spend our year going through the first 26 chapters of The Story of the World 1. This covers the ancient Egypt, Babylon, Israel, Assyria, India, China, Africa, and Greece! (The remaining chapters are covered in our Famous Men of Rome class)

Children will read the designated chapter at home before class and then we work through the comprehension questions in class.

Children get to do simple map work during the remaining days as well as review information using Quizlet.

Although it is not mandatory, we do encourage a bit of review work with Quizlet. We provide a Quizlet link to the proper sets. There is an optional quiz at the end of each week.

There is also a review week after each 4-5  lessons in which the kids get to play History Jeopardy for review and then they can write a report on those chapters (if parents desire).

In additional to all of this, we also provide an additional reading list that we feel helps reinforce each lesson. These are typically wonderful "living books" that correspond to the era of history that the kids are currently learning.

As an added bonus, we also offer videos on how to draw a few of the countries that we are learning about such as North Africa and the Middle East. These are optional but definitely help the kids in understanding where countries are located.
